Powerful and RespectedIf you would like to become powerful, strong, respected, impressive and successful, there are two ways you can make it happen.

First, position your information.  Communication is most effective when it is purposefully positioned.  When you say the right thing at the right time using the right tone of voice, the right facial expressions, and the right body language, you will get the right response.  Be consciously aware of how you sound, what you say, and how you look when you say it.

Second, perception IS the other person’s reality.  If you want to be perceived as powerful, get rid of the intensive adverbs in your communication style.  These include such modifiers as just, terribly, such, awfully, quite, probably, and kind of.  These are known as hedgers or softeners.  “That was quite interesting.”  Was it interesting or not?  “He was probably wrong.”  Was he wrong or wasn’t he?  Why would you say someone was wrong unless you knew for sure he was wrong?

Eliminate words from your vocabulary that have no apparent semantic intent, for example, well, you know, like, if you know what I mean and okey-dokey.  These will make you sound like a lightweight and you will be perceived as neither powerful or impressive.

What you say and how you say it will reveal who you believe you are.  Make sure your entire demeanor is saying what you want it to say.  Power belongs to those who respond to life in a strong, active and positive manner.
