Activities that encourage personal growth are especially good for helping self esteem.
Pick something that you really want to learn how to do and join a club or a class and devote the time to learning what you have always wanted to learn. It does not matter what it is, as you challenge yourself and become proficient, your self-esteem will grow. You must make the commitment to stick-with-it and try your hardest for at least a year.
You should set a timeline, in writing, that expresses realistic expectations as to what you will be able to do in a month, 2 months, 3 months, and on through the year.
You should keep a Portfolio of Progress” every week as you go through this year to see your progress from beginning to end.
