Hi there,
Sorry that the newsletter is running a little late this month. June has really been busy. I’ve spoken from Washington state to Florida and back again. I love having the work and the travel hasn’t been very difficult lately. Well, except for one 7 hour layover in the Seattle airport, but I occupied myself with reading two novels…”The Best of Me” by Nicholas Sparks and “One Summer” by David Baldacci. If you are looking for a good read, I’d recommend both of these books. One of them made me cry right there in the airport. I won’t tell you which one. That would ruin it for you.
This month, I also read Susan Rex Ryan’s book “Defend Your Life.” The entire book is about the wonders of vitamin D3. Susan strongly believes that simple, natural, and inexpensive vitamin D3 supplementation will significantly help people enjoy more healthy lives. I actually met Susan at one of my writing seminars in Las Vegas a couple of years ago and it was her recommendation to check into vitamin D3 that led me to ask my doctors about it. Thus, it became one of the supplements in my treatment when Overcoming Cancer. Congratulations to Susan. The book is very informative.
Did you know that if cherries are growing and they get too much rain, they pop? I didn’t. Their stems are hollow and if they fill with the rain water, they will pop. This year, there’s been much rain in Washington and so there have been helicopters flying low over the cherry fields. When I asked what they were doing, I was told they are blowing the water off the trees in an attempt to save the cherries. I found this fascinating. I don’t think I’ll ever complain about the price of cherries again after seeing what these farmers go through trying to save them.
I’m taking art lessons while I am up here. Decided to try a new medium and am attempting to learn acrylics. The teacher is a phenomenal artist and really fun. The class is full of fabulous artists who have been studying with this teacher for 10 years. It’s going to be a challenge for me and I’m excited about it, plus it looks like I am going to make even more new friends.
Hope your summer is going well and that you, too, are having new adventures. Let me know!
And remember,
You are more than enough,
Judi
With Whom Do You Associate
Who are your friends? Who are your associates? With whom do you spend the most time?
We don’t get to pick our relatives but we can certainly choose who we seek out for friendship. Many of us haven’t chosen our friends; we’ve just acquired them --- through work, school, or associations. In many instances, negative people have somehow infiltrated themselves into our social circle. It is of uppermost importance to associate with positive people.
We learn our behaviors, habits, mannerisms, speech patterns, verbiage and manners (or lack of them) from the people with whom we associate. People who succeed put themselves in the company of other people who are striving to succeed. People who fail often hang around with people who have no goals and no ambition.
If you associate with successful people, you will learn from them and you will be more likely to become successful, too. Successful people often present opportunities to people they know. The people with whom you associate should be people who are interesting and have a positive outlook toward life. You should also be able to contribute something of value to their lives.
Make a list of the people with whom you usually associate. Then beside their names, write down their most outstanding characteristic. Whom would you like to emulate? Who is interesting? Who is negative or badmouths others? Who complains a lot? Who makes things happen? Which friends or associates are just getting by?
If you find there are negative people on your list, don’t worry. You don’t have to go right out and dump them. You may want to spend a bit less time around them. Think in terms of acquiring new friends and acquaintances who are positive and are headed where you want to go. When I decided I wanted to be a speaker, I joined the National Speakers Association. There I found loads of positive people who were already successful at what I wanted to do. I learned from them. Then later, when I decided I also wanted to be a published author, I joined a writer’s group and started attending writing conferences. There I found successful authors and once again, met people who were willing to mentor me. If you want to be an artist, go where artists go. If you want to be an internet guru, go to conferences for internet gurus. Get acquainted with these people. Introduce yourself. Ask questions. Be interested in others. Events provide us with opportunities to meet and develop relationships with others.
In order to meet the most successful and positive people in the room, wear a positive and successful look on your face and a sparkle in your eyes. Dress professionally and stand up straight. Wear your confidence in your posture and your demeanor.
Associating with negative people who have no initiative will pull you down. If you want to be successful, you must go where successful people go, do what successful people do, and cultivate friendships with people who have goals and ambitions. Hang out with people who not only have big dreams and big ambitions, but who make things happen.
When I was growing up, my dad often said, “If you associate with the best, you will become one of the best.” Choose your friends and associates for their values and their qualities. Don’t leave your associations to chance.
Did You Know?
More than one-third of American women are now the family breadwinner. Nine out of ten women will manage their finances alone at some point in their lives. Women have more power and earning potential
than ever before. We’re graduating with more advanced degrees than men. Yet, we lag behind men in actions crucial to building wealth and security.
Traditionally, women have had a head-in-the-sand approach to long term financial planning. Experts have identified that women tend to be insecure about the subject of money; we focus on scrimping instead of investing; we rely too heavily on others for financial know-how; and we’re not always adept at translating abstract figures into concrete goals.

...To say it has been a joy working with you falls short. I have often thought of sharing my story but hesitated. Timing is everything, they say. Through your vision and encouragement, the time was right. You made the experience of publishing my childhood story one that I know has already changed my life and will change the lives of others. Moving forward is now the only sight I see. Thank you for your commitment to excellence for yourself and the lives of others.
