Hi there,
April has been a busy month. I spent the first week and a half up in Washington State and then when I got home I attended the Las Vegas Writers Conference. It was really good this year. I especially loved the session on humor writing put on by John Vorhaus and I purchased his book “Creativity Rules” which is the best book I’ve read on writing in absolute years! Then Jeff Kleinman, literary agent, presented an informative session on how publishing professionals think in order to “position” your book in the marketplace. That session was, for me, worth the price of the entire conference. There were so many good sessions. I learned lots in Jennifer Thompson’s Secrets to Search Engine Optimization. For once a technical person spoke where I understood her and was able to come back and implement many of the things she talked about. David Zuckerman, Hollywood Producer, offered his keys to screenwriting success. There were so many good workshops, I can’t name them all here. My Haley (My is her first name) was the keynote speaker. She’s a little bit of a woman with so much energy and enthusiasm, I couldn’t help but get caught up in the excitement of her message. My is the widow of Alex Haley, the author of “Roots”. It was fun to hear her stories of their life together. She has a new book in the marketplace entitled “The Treason of Mary Louvestre.” I’m looking forward to reading it. It’s the true story of a black woman spy during the Civil War.
My book, “Overcoming Cancer: A Journey of Faith” is finally published and copies are in my hands. Yea! This book has been a real challenge. For some reason, it decided when it would get completed. It’s the story of my journey through cancer along with tips and suggestions for cancer patients and caretakers on how to get through the experience in the most positive manner possible. I am honored that Dr. James Sensenig, ND, Founding President of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians wrote the back cover testimonial and Dr. Joe Holcomb (my doctor) wrote the Forward to the book. It seems all of us are eventually touched by cancer in one way or another, we either get it or we know someone who has it or has had it. In this book, my intent was to give hope to people and to help them understand that we all need to boost our immune systems to stay healthy and/or to regain our health. Until I got cancer, I didn’t really know how to eat properly, didn’t take care of myself as well as I could have, didn’t get enough rest, and didn’t say No many times when I should. I’m hoping this book helps newly diagnosed patients ask better questions, understand there are alternative and integrated treatments that can work, and realize that this journey can bring us to a new and better place, if we are open to possibilities and stay focused forward.
The NSA-LV Academy which I have coordinated this year is coming to an end. We have 11 speakers who have been through an intensive eight month course and will be graduating on May 11th at our last NSA-LV meeting of the season. They have had the privilege of having Patricia Fripp, Mike Rayburn, Darren LaCroix, Jeff Civillico, Anita Johnston, and Marilyn Sherman join me on the Academy staff and they have all made brilliant improvements in their speaking styles and presentation content. I’m so very proud of them.
May looks to be an even busier month with the launch of my new radio show, “Choices” with Judi Moreo and our new on-line magazine also named “Choices” which will come out four times a year… Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. The magazine has articles by many of our Life Choices authors as well as some by me. You’ve been asking for more from them and now you can just go on-line and read it at your leisure. This month the focus is on Money: how to get it, invest it, save it, and spend it wisely.
Let me hear from you how you like it.
Oh and until May 16th, you can vote for me every day in the More Magazine Beauty Search. I’m competing in the Over 60 category. Yes, women can still be beautiful when they are mature! I’d appreciate your vote. It could maybe win me a trip to New York and a picture in More Magazine. I’d really like that. I’m still a model at heart. Thanks for doing this for me.
You are more than enough,
Judi
Count Your Blessings
Whenever we find ourselves resisting our life circumstances, rather than reacting out of fear, anger, or despair, we can choose positive actions to get us out of undesirable circumstances. Whenever we wonder if the positive experiences we want in our lives will ever come about, we must stay focused on the good that is already present in our lives and be thankful for the blessings we have.
When Sharon’s son was born, the doctor told her that due to a heart problem, her son would not live beyond the age of two. She and her husband had a solid faith in God and an unwavering belief that their son would survive. They celebrated and gave thanks for every day of his life.
Instead of accepting a death sentence, they held faith and built a future. Their son is now 27 years old.
When you choose to live anchored in faith instead of thinking about what you lack and your limitations, you will feel calmer and more peaceful. You will be better able to think clearly and find solutions to problems, make the right decisions, and choose the right path for your life, instead of running around in a frenzy grabbing anything and everything that looks like an easy answer. Any time you act out of fear, you give up your power.
Kim Kiyosaki states in her book, Rich Woman, “While fear can warn us of life-threatening events, it can also be a killer — a killer of dreams, of opportunities, of our own personal growth and passion, of living life to its absolute fullest.” When you choose faith instead, you will have more control over your life and more power to make things happen.
