Dear ^fname^,
Well, it's here. The New Year!!! And I, for one, am really glad to be starting a New Year. Last year was my toughest year ever! As you know, this past year I lost my sister and one of my closest friends, I won my battle with cancer, and am still dealing with the court case against the burglars that ransacked our farm. In addition, my biggest client had budget cutbacks and cancelled 5 months of work. So I am glad that year is behind me. I'm ready for bigger and better things. What about you? Are you ready to have your best year ever? Have you outlined a plan to make that happen?
One of my friends was visiting from South Africa over the holidays and he said something that really made me think. He said, "I've been coming to America for 32 years. It's always been the land of hope and promise. This year it's not that way. It seems the people are defeated. They have no hope." "How sad," I thought, "that we are giving this poor impression to people around the world." We certainly are NOT defeated and I have lots of hope. We are a long way from being defeated…by people from other parts of the world and/or people within our own country. This is the USA. It is my country. It is your country. It has always been what we, the people, have made it. It is my hope that this year, we the people stand up for our rights and fight for what is ours. I will not be defeated by cancer, burglars, the economy or poor leadership. It is time for us to take a good hard look at our values, the behavior of our children and ourselves, the compassion we have for others, and be brave enough to make things right. It is time for us to thank our military men and women for fighting for our freedom, our police for attempting to protect us, our fire fighters for attempting to save our lives and our property and quit worshiping celebrities who make a lot of money but are poor role models and offer no real value to our lives or even their own.
It's time to stop waiting for someone else to make our lives better. We must stop listening to everyone else telling us how bad things are. Hope is a choice. Winning is a choice. We must stop waiting for someone else to fight for our freedom, our success, our lives. We have a choice. We can choose to do the same things we did in 2010 and have the same kind of year or we can choose to truly make this a fresh start, a new beginning...focusing on what we CAN DO instead of what we can't. Hope isn't dead, it's just been asleep. Wake up!
It is time for us to decide what we want and go after it with fierce determination. Set your goals now for a better life this year and start taking the steps to make it happen. I know you can do this.
You are more than enough,

Become A Problem Solver
By Judi Moreo
It is absolutely essential we become problem solvers. Problem identifiers are a dime a dozen. Anyone can go around pointing out problems. On the other hand, problem solvers are worth their weight in gold. Far too few people spend their time and use their minds looking for solutions. Problems give us opportunities to be creative. If you can identify a problem, you can certainly use your creative abilities to come up with a possible solution or two.
Don't confuse problem solving with decision making. Problem solving is a brainstorming activity where we look at all the possible options available to us to solve a problem. Decision making is where we select one of those possibilities. Ever make a decision that is not in everyone's best interest? Make your decisions based on what you know is the right thing to do. Be sure what you choose passes the test of your conscience as well as your integrity.
When you see a problem, prepare a careful analysis of that problem and any other problems it may cause. Make sure you are looking at the real problem and not a symptom of a problem. Once you are positive you are addressing the real problem, create a list of possible solutions and recommendations for alternatives. Then evaluate each option to be sure you are doing what is right for all concerned. If you feel in your heart it is the right thing to do, do it!
Remember, if you don't have problems, you aren't growing! Growth is always a creator of problems. These problems are opportunities. A problem just might be the push you need to do something differently.

Letting Go, Moving Forward
Make an appointment with yourself. Schedule an hour to go someplace where you will not be interrupted by anyone. Turn off your cell phone and computer. All you need to have with you is blank paper and a pen.
At the top of the first page write: " Things I no longer need to keep." Make a list of all the things in your life that no longer serve you or are cluttering your life. This can be the shoes you never wear but just couldn't bear to part with, the extra set of dishes packed away in the cupboard. This list should also include any negative beliefs about yourself and any relationships that are no longer of value.
On the second page write: "Things I would like in my life." List the things that are important to you. These are not just physical things you want to acquire (new car or home). Include on this list people you would like to associate with, places you would like to go, the number you want to see when you step on the scale and the things you want to believe about yourself and your life.
Make your list as complete as possible. This may take more than one day. Once you have completed both lists, either burn or shed the first list. You are telling yourself to let go of all of those things you no longer need. Keep the second list somewhere easy to access. Look at it often. Make affirmations from the things you have listed that you want: I am successful, I am my perfect weight, I am working at my perfect job. Repeat the affirmations to yourself regularly and whenever you come across anything you had on your "no longer need" list, breathe and release. Focus forward.
