Dear
,
I don’t know if I told you or not that I started a 100 day health challenge that will take me to the end of the year. This entails eating foods that are better for me and working out three to five days a week. It also involves eliminating negativity from my life….thoughts, feelings, people. I’m right at the end of the first quarter of this challenge and I must tell you, it’s been quite an experience. I do real good when I’m at home. I jump out of bed at 5 am and go off to the gym at 5:30. I actually lay my clothes out the night before so I don’t have to think about what I am going to wear…just get up, put them on and go. After gym, I come home, shower, put on makeup and clothes and start my day by journaling. Thank goodness for the Achievement Journal, because just when I think I can’t go on, I come across an affirmation that says something along the lines of “I have strength enough to do whatever I attempt to do,” or “I move beyond my perceived limitations.” Then, I think, “Yea! I can do this.”
But then again, there are those days on the road when the plane is 5 hours late getting into a strange city and it’s just easier to drive the rental car through Taco Bell on the way to the hotel. Five o’clock in the morning doesn’t seem like a good idea when I have to go to some stinky workout room in the hotel where I’m staying and other people are there fighting for the machines, instead of the friendly fun people I see at my gym at home, so I head for the restaurant and do my arm curls by putting my breakfast in my mouth. There are so many great restaurants for lunch and dinner. And, of course, friends who invite me over for dinner serve all kinds of wonderful tempting, but unhealthy foods. I was so proud of myself for turning down key lime pie. I’m learning to eat apples before every meal and before I go out anywhere. They are easy to carry on trips as well. Heavy though. I’ve suddenly developed an allergy to wine which helps. Now if I can just develop an allergy to saki, mashed potatoes, bread, and butter, I’ll be alright. I was so hoping to be thin enough by Halloween to dress up like Cher, but I don’t think I’m going to make it. Oh well, there’s always New Year’s Eve. At least, I’ll be healthier! What are you doing to get through the holidays without gaining weight? Send me some ideas!
Remember, you are more than enough!

So What If You Aren’t Keeping Up With the Joneses?

Madonna is not the only one who has become “a material girl in a material world.” Many of us live with the fear of poverty every day. We are afraid we won’t live in the right neighborhood, drive the right car, wear the right clothes, carry the right handbag, or be able to sustain the right lifestyle. This desire for more and more is directly connected to what others will think of us. If we don’t have as much as they do, they might look down their noses at us. You could go deeply in debt and many of you probably have, trying to keep up with your neighbors and friends, but there is no guarantee that having more material possessions will make you any happier…or even make you fit in. We have become a nation of spenders!!! Just because we want it doesn’t mean we should have it. Are we buying all of these things because we are trying to fill the void of satisfaction in our lives?
Close self scrutiny may disclose how very much we want the “right people” to think we are the right kind of person, too! Many of us are so eager to acquire material things, we don’t nourish our values, our health, our integrity, or our spiritual selves. Many people believe if they had all the money they needed, everything else in their lives would be fine. This is not true. Money may buy you a multitude of things, but it will not ensure that you are healthy, happy, or have great relationships. If you are sick, all the money in the world won’t buy the health you desire.
There are many symptoms of poverty consciousness. If you can recognize and eliminate these symptoms before they become ingrained as your lifestyle, you will never again have to worry about poverty. These symptoms are known as laziness, indecision, doubt, fault-finding, procrastination, complaining, and compulsive spending. Additional symptoms include a lack of ambition, a lack of self-control, and neglect of your personal appearance. If any of these symptoms have crept into your life, get rid of them right away. The longer you allow them to remain, the more consumed you become by your poverty consciousness.
Eliminate these symptoms and poverty will disappear from your mind and your life. You will find yourself in control of all you want to achieve and you will have both the relationships and possessions you desire.
Who are the Joneses anyway?

Mind Workout: Tell Stories |
|
What It Is
A creative tool to stimulate imagination and thinking processes to find solutions and better ways of doing things. It can also be an inexpensive, fun way of spending an evening with family and/or friends.
What You’ll Need
Stories that you have read, experienced yourself, or observed through the experiences of others that have meaningful messages for you.
How It Works
Learning to tell stories in an interesting manner enhances creativity of both the teller and the listener. Stories illustrate behavior in ways that take listeners away from their current situations and let them learn about similar situations. This allows listeners to draw lessons from the stories that they can apply to their own situations.
Use stories in your meetings to effectively demonstrate a point that will inspire participants to take action. Using a variety of stories will eliminate the sameness and/or routines of meetings. Make sure listeners understand why you used a story to make a point.
