Dear
,
This past week I was the Toastmaster at my Powerhouse Pros Toastmasters Club and in picking the theme “Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise,” I came across a quote by Henry David Thoreau, which said, “Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.” How would we fully experience life, if we didn’t have our health? After being sick for eight weeks, I can assure you that I indeed feel wealthy now that I am up and around and making things happen once again. Life is more exciting when we feel good. Life is more interesting when we feel more like being interested. I’ve come to the conclusion that the wisest thing any of us can do, is take care of our health. I’ve decided that even though it’s July, I have a new year’s resolution to put my health first from now on.
How about you? Are you taking care of yourself? Or are you running from pillar to post trying to get ahead of the wealth game. Are you fully experiencing life? Always remember, you are more than enough to experience all the health, wealth, wisdom and joy that you can hold.
Judi
If you’ve been listening to the news lately, you may have come to the conclusion that the outlook at the moment is bleak. You may even be one of the thousands who have lost a job, retirement savings or a relationship in the last year. You may be caught up in the gloom and doom, hopeless mind set that is more contagious than a flu pandemic.
There are some things you can do to keep yourself healthy when everyone around you shares their negativity and to help prevent the spread of the dis-ease.
Inoculate –
To keep your mind and body healthy, it is important to first inoculate yourself by setting your intention.
Our intentions are our best defense against negativity and aimless wandering. Without intention, our lives lack meaning and purpose. Without purpose and direction, our natural immunity to depression and physical illness is compromised. It is easy to become trapped in the downward spiral of hopelessness.
Every morning, before you get out of bed, you can reset your intention for the day. Only you can determine what kind of day you will have. Set your intention to have a good day. When you find yourself bombarded with negativity, remind yourself that your intent is to be happy, relaxed and productive. It’s easier to say no to negativity when you have a focused intention to fall back on.
Be clear about your intention. Write it down. Share it with someone who will support you and help hold you accountable for your actions throughout the day. Take action! Do something that demonstrates your commitment to fulfill your intention. When you have taken a first step, give yourself credit for what you have done and determine what you will do next.
Living by intention is a safer, healthier way to achieve your goals than wandering aimlessly through life.
Cover your mouth –
It is easy to get caught up in negative conversations. Watch every word that comes out of your mouth. Your words spread dis-ease as surely as a cough or sneeze. Make sure that the things you are saying – to yourself and others – are positive and in line with the intention you set for your day.
Wash your hands –
When you find yourself surrounded by people whose main purpose seems to be to infect the rest of the world with their negativity, wash your hands, dust yourself off and remind yourself of your intentions for the day. Excuse yourself, head for the nearest restroom and wash your mind.
When you set your intention and maintain healthy habits, you will create an inner state of confidence and a positive outlook that will give you a sense of emotional security providing protection from the dis-ease of negativity.
This is a very good time to go to the library, used book store, or your own bookshelf, and get out some of the older, fabulous books that will help you remember who you are. I recommend that this month you read or reread one or more of the following:

What It Is:
An exercise in making better choices.
What You Need:
Pen and three 3 x 5 index cards
Here’s how it works
Across the top of each of the three index cards write one of these words
Health
Wealth
Wisdom
Next, under each of the headings, list three of your intentions as to how you will improve in this area of your life. Then write the next step you will take. When you have taken that step, record the date and determine the next step and then continue until you have achieved your goals.
