Dear
,
It seems that everywhere I’ve turned lately people are talking about the down economy, the high prices of gasoline, and how life is getting tougher and tougher. Just how is one supposed to stay positive when all around us seem to be negative?
No one ever promised us that life would be easy, so what we need to do is look at what we do have…what tools and skills we each have and how we can use them to get the best return. Being positive is the beginning of thinking and doing new things in new ways. Life should be a wonderful adventure…a puzzle to be solved. All progress is due to constructive “can do” thinking. Positive people believe that it is better to have tried and failed than never to have tried at all. Taking the easy way out – inaction and complaining – is not nearly so interesting as taking on a challenge or conquering a difficulty.
In order to stay positive when people around me are complaining, I remind myself of that line in the movie, Field of Dreams – “If you build it, they will come.” Whatever we decide to do, will happen …when we take action in that direction. The success we have will be a result of our planning and our enthusiasm for carrying out the plan. Successful people make their own futures. They keep their eyes on where they want to go, what they want to do, and who they want to do it with. Then they start taking steps in the right direction.
Remember, no bright new ideas, no exciting projects, and no great works come out of a negative, fault-finding mind. We may not be able to “change the world” but we certainly can change a small part of it – our part – by making a conscious effort daily not to buy into the “woe-is-me” mentality.
June is a wonderful month. Enjoy it! Say something positive to everyone you encounter and when people want to bend your ear with the “ain’t it awfuls”, simply respond by saying, “Thank you for sharing.”
Yamte,
You hear about it all the time. Writer’s Block – that awful moment you find yourself staring at the blank page and realize you have no idea how to begin and a deadline fast approaching. Oh, you have ideas, wonderful flights of fancy that have you finishing your report ahead of time, writing a best selling novel or having your fabulous article published in the latest, greatest magazine. But the words just won’t come. The ones that do show up somehow don’t seem to fit together properly, so you delete and start over…and there’s that blank page again. It flashes in all its intimidating bright, white glory, daring you to create something wonderful.
OK, so you’re not a writer. Have you experienced “life block?” It’s the same thing. Wonderful dreams and goals, a great vision for how things should be – and absolutely no idea where to start. Overwhelmed with just getting through the day, you find yourself wanting to run directly to the nearest cave and pull a large rock over the entrance behind you. Safe in the still, dark cave – away from the noise and demands of your job, your family and your everyday life, you finally have time to think, to dream, to plan – perhaps even to journal – and the only thing you can hear over the still raging noise in your head is, “Why didn’t I remember to bring chocolate?”
Our lives have become so filled with “be more, do more, get more” so that you can “be more, do more and get more,” that we spend most of our time simply running in circles…and then wonder why we are no further down the road than we were last year or the year before.
We’re almost half way through the year. When was the last time you stopped running long enough to check your road map? You remember- the goals you set with such inspiration, motivation and enthusiasm at the beginning of the year. Have you been working toward your goals or just hoping they will somehow happen while you go on with life as usual?
The best way to cure writer’s block is to quit beating yourself up about what you’re NOT doing, and then to do something different – take a walk, go to a movie, treat yourself to your favorite ice cream – change your attitude, your thinking – get a fresh sheet of paper – one that’s anything but WHITE. Do something creative. Make paper airplanes using all those blank sheets. Laugh, have some fun. Then get back on track, set aside specific time for writing and specific goals for how much you can realistically write each session. Little by little, day by day, the story will finish itself.
Sound familiar? Of course it is. It’s the same for overcoming life block. Stop, change your thinking, and change your habits. Give yourself a break. Set specific goals and do something each day toward accomplishing them. Little-by-little, day-by-day you’ll find yourself willing to come back out of your cave and participate in the fullness and richness of your life story.
Mind Workout:
Recording Ideas |
|
What It Is
A way to record ideas right away. So many ideas are lost because they are not written down at the precise time they are thought of. Capturing a few of the thoughts you have every day will eventually lead to more and more useful, realistic ideas and solutions that work.
What You’ll Need
Any of the following will do:
- Notebook
- Tape recorder
- Blank paper
- Customized thinking forms
How It Works
The intention of recording ideas is to record it as you think of it. Record all ideas, even the bad or incomplete ones. A notebook is perfect for writing down any new and incomplete ideas. A notebook allows for easy review.
A tape recorder is always useful when it’s not convenient to write. You may never use the ideas you record, but the act of recording stimulates more ideas.
Blank paper allows you to scribble or draw any word or image that comes to mind. Ideas come to us when we least expect them (for example, in the middle of the night or in the shower)! Having pencil and paper readily available is smart.
Thinking forms are customized to your needs and what you wish to capture.

Tears of Hope
By Aimmee Kodachian Riley |
|
Have you ever faced seemingly insurmountable challenges? Have you ever thought that life is just not fair? Have you ever wondered “Why me?” If so, read Aimmee Kodachian Riley’s, Tears of Hope.
This true story is not only inspiring, it is sobering. It’s a story that pricks the conscience, delves the soul, strengthens the spirit, and touches the heart.
Although it’s against Middle Eastern culture to open up about intimate, personal matters, Aimmee has the courage to share her story in an effort to help others realize that it is possible to overcome life’s greatest challenges. Through her incredible personal story of living through war, poverty, physical and sexual abuse, escaping death three times, burying 13 close family members by the age of 26, achieving only a fourth grade education and having dyslexia, Aimmee shares how she managed to keep hope alive while overcoming tragedies and turning obstacles into success.
Aimmee is living proof that by using your own inner strength, faith, and personal power, you can live a life of freedom, peace, and value. In spite of her challenges, she has become an entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker.
This is a book well worth reading. You’ll probably never ask “why me?” again.
