Dear
,
Many of us have believed over the years that Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer was always a part of Christmas folklore, but Rudolphs’ story really began in 1939 when the Montgomery Ward Department Store in Chicago, Illinois was looking for something novel to use as a Christmas promotion. Robert May, one of the advertising copywriters for Montgomery Ward had a talent for writing children’s stories and limericks, so he suggested an illustrated poem in the form of a booklet that families would keep over the years. An artist friend by the name of Denver Gillen, created whimsical sketches of reindeer at rest and at play. Together they completed the booklet and 2.4 million copies of the story of Rudolph were given away in Montgomery Ward stores throughout the United States during the 1939 holiday season.
In 1947, Robert May, obtained the commercial rights to Rudolph from Montgomery Ward. He then talked his brother-in-law, songwriter Johnny Marks, into writing lyrics and a melody for a Rudolph song which was recorded in 1949 by Gene Autry after another popular singer had declined to record the song. Since then, 300 different recordings of the song have been made and more than eighty million records sold.
In the original book, Rudolph was not one of Santa’s reindeer and did not live at the North Pole and incidentally, his reindeer parents were not ashamed of him. They brought him up in a loving household and he was a responsible reindeer with a good self image and sense of worth. So, when Santa asked Rudolph to join his team and lead them through the fog, the reindeer was open and ready to take advantage of the opportunity.
Are you ready for the opportunities this holiday season presents to you? Is there someone you can help through a foggy night? Is there a family that might need food or toys for their children? Have you thought about how your own family might need to share more love and kindness rather than material goods? Have you made sure you aren’t stressed out through the holidays and that you, too, are enjoying this special time of year with family and friends?
Some things you might do to make the holidays a little easier.
- Hire a senior citizen with a nice handwriting to address your cards.
- Order stamps on-line.
- Hire a teenager in the neighborhood to go to the post office, stand in line and mail your packages.
- Invite three friends and their families over for coffee and muffins and everyone decorate your tree together.
- Turn down invitations to any holiday parties that you don’t want to attend.
- Book your flight to relatives for Christmas Eve. Take the red-eye. It’ll be a more pleasant flight because the plane will be empty…and if you look out the window, you might just catch a glimpse of Rudolph.
Have a wonderful Holiday Season!
Remember, You Are More Than Enough,
From December 26 to January 1, many black Americans celebrate a cultural holiday known as Kwanzaa. The rituals of this holiday come from the harvest festivals of Africa. These rituals are based on seven important principles: unity, self-determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. Often children will receive gifts or books and symbols of their heritage. Then on New Years Eve, there is a feast with native food, music, recitations and dance. Seems to me like a very good way to celebrate the holidays.
Success Is A Conscious Decision |
|
Our thoughts determine what we want. Our actions determine what we get. Think what you want and then take action. Your first action is to make your desires specific and visual. The second is to make a conscious decision and a plan to get what you want. Don’t let fear or negative self-talk hold you back.
When you want something better, you have to do something different than what you are doing now. Make the decision that you will be successful and know that you have the power to create whatever success you want in your life. Then, start to take steps in the direction you want to go.
You can achieve whatever you want to achieve. You are more than enough!
I am in the process of repackaging myself. If you have heard me speak to an audience, won’t you hit the reply button and tell me what you think of when you think of me as a speaker. Three to five descriptive words is fine! I’d really appreciate it! Thanks.
The Perfect Christmas Gift |
|
Upon seeing our new Achievement Journal, many class participants have said, “Oh, this would make the perfect gift for......” And then they name 1 to 10 people. Charlotte and I are having quite a time just keeping up with the orders, so I am encouraging you to order your Achievement Journal gifts now in order for us to get them in the mail to you right away.
This is a journal for anyone who wants to bring their ideas, hopes, and dreams to life. It is also for those people who don’t know what they want. It is a complete success system. It asks questions to help you figure out who you are and where you are going. There are pages to write your goals and pages to paste pictures of your goals in each of the eight major areas of your life. There is a place to record your successes. It is a stress-free journal. It doesn’t matter if you start in it on Monday or Wednesday...January or July...the first or the twenty-first. You can write as little or as much as you want each day. If you skip a day, simply pick up where you left off in the next available space. If you date your entries, you will have a way to track your personal time table against the calendar. It also gives you a measurement tool so you can be sure you are staying on track. And a couple of pages of peel and stick gold stars for you to reward yourself throughout the year. We all march to the beat of a different drummer. This is a journal you can use even if you don’t know any drummers.

“I have always been a goal achiever, but Judi Moreo’s journal has taken my goal achievement to a new level. She has provided a workable structure for setting and achieving goals as well as the tools to help others discover their uniqueness and believe in themselves.”

“I attended Judi’s ‘Communicating with Tact and Finesse’ class at Nebraska Department of Roads last year. She mentioned in class we should write our wish list in a book and see if it comes true. I thought this was a long shot but tried it anyway. I recently ran across the notebook I had written it in and everything in the book had come true. Unbelievable! The writing of my wishes/goals will now be a yearly ritual.”

Make a holiday date with yourself and go somewhere alone. Choose a place that will appeal to your creative side or a place that is fully decorated for Christmas. Look at the decorations or watch the people or the dancing waters and listen to the music. Stay at least an hour. Totally immerse yourself in the experience.
Before you go home, write yourself a letter expressing how you felt while on your “date.” Write about any new experiences or insights you had. Write about any fears and how you felt about yourself when you moved through the fear.
I recently did this while I was in Chicago. I was supposed to meet a friend and go to the musical “Wicked.” Somehow miscommunication happened and my friend didn’t meet me. I decided to have a date with myself and go to the play anyway. It was a wonderful experience. I was apprehensive to go across town by myself and I really didn’t know what to expect at the theatre but I did it. Before the show and at intermission I talked with people who sat all around me and I thoroughly enjoyed the conversation. The musical was wonderful. Afterwards, I walked a few blocks back before stopping at a small café and having dinner with myself then hailing a cab to my hotel. I would really have enjoyed my friend being there, but I was Ok with just me and it felt really good to have had such a nice time with myself. It increased my confidence level. Now, I’ll definitely go to plays by myself in the future when I am in cities like New York or San Francisco.
