Dear
,
Recently I was sitting on the airplane next to a very good looking young man in a beautiful grey suit, crisp white shirt, and a very stylish tie. I was admiring his appearance and noticing the book he was reading, “How to Think Like A CEO” when he stuck his finger in his nose, picked something out, and flicked it on the back of the seat in front of him. I handed him a tissue and said, “You might want to use this next time.”
This incident caused me to think that it might be better if young people like this learned to “Behave Like a CEO.” This, and the fact that since I have returned to Las Vegas from Africa, many of my previous students at Universal Models Finishing School have now grown up and said to me, “It’s such a shame that my children have no program to attend like I had when I attended your school,” have brought me to the realization that it is time to offer Executive Finishing School classes once again.
So, beginning this month, Turning Point International is now offering courses in Image Management, Office Relationships, Goal Setting and Achievement, Communication Skills, Wardrobe Engineering, as well as Business and Personal Etiquette. If you have any interest in these programs for yourself or your children (teens and young adults), please let us know. Or if you know of an Executive or a company that needs this type of training, please let us know that as well. They can come to us at our offices or we can go to them.
If you are an ex-Universal Model and you have an interest in becoming an instructor, please let us know that as well. Our office number is (702) 896-2228. Charlotte is there every day from 9 am – 4 pm. Well sometimes, we let her go out for lunch.
I’ve been having a fabulous month promoting the new book, “You Are More Than Enough: Every Woman’s Guide to Purpose, Passion and Power. I’ve met so many wonderful people and even did two days of filming interviews about the book which will be used by National Seminars Group/Rockhurst University to promote their upcoming Women’s Leadership Conferences. I visited the Five Star Speakers Bureau while I was in Kansas City and met several new consultants that I didn’t know from previous engagements with this bureau. In Boulder, Colorado I attended church several Sundays and made some great new friends, and now its back to the road doing programs and seminars.
I met with Sue Campbell while in Colorado. Sue is the artist that designed “You Are More Than Enough.” She has just finished the final artwork on the companion “’Achievement Journal.” It is absolutely beautiful. As many of you know, I’ve been creating this journal, using it and adjusting it for almost 20 years. It is finally where I feel it is workable for you, so it will be ready in time for Christmas and the New Year. I’m so excited about it and know you will be too… as soon as you receive your copy and start using it to make all your dreams, hopes, and goals come true.
This month, I am filming some public television shows at Eastern New Mexico University with my friend , Sheryl, on her show Creative Living with Sheryl Borden, Produced by KENW-TV for PBS and I’ve taken up walking. I’m now up to 3 miles a day. If this doesn’t get me skinny, I don’t know what will.
Keep in touch and know…you really are More Than Enough,
Maintaining a Positive Attitude |
|
Even the most successful people have experienced periods when they have been confused, disillusioned, and discouraged. Yet these very people have overcome trials and tribulations to triumph and victory because they have chosen the right attitude.
When we feel discouraged and stressed; when life seems intolerable, even meaningless; when our lives are not going the direction we want them to go; and when events are taking place so fast that we don’t know the questions, never mind the answers, doesn’t it make sense that we should take control of our thoughts, so that we, too, can triumph?
Life comes to us in series of challenges. The attitude with which we choose to perceive these challenges and the mindset with which we prepare for them determines whether our lives are rewarding or not. Victor Frankl, a Jewish psychiatrist who spent World War II in the same concentration camp where his wife and child were killed and the manuscript that was his life’s work was destroyed, later wrote a book titled “Man’s Search for Meaning.” In it, Frankl asked himself why some people gave up and died under the difficult circumstances of a concentration camp while others not only survived, but grew stronger. From his observations, he concluded that the answer to this difficult question was attitude: “What made the difference,” he wrote, “was how people chose to perceive the experience.” In any given set of circumstances, he decided, “everything can be taken from a person except the ability to choose one’s attitude.”
Mind Workout: Believe You Can |
|
Make a date with yourself and go somewhere alone. Choose a place that will appeal to your creative side. Stay at least one hour. Do something fun or do something brave. Do something you’ve never done before, or something you have secretly wished you could do. Totally immerse yourself in the experience.
It might be that you visit an art gallery, have a picnic in the woods, ride the city bus around town, take a hot air balloon ride, or eat lunch in an elaborate and expensive restaurant.
When you have completed your experience, write about how you felt while you were doing it. Write about any new experiences or insights you had. Write about any fears and how you felt when you moved through the fear. Give yourself a gold star for completing your workout.
AFFIRMATION (Repeat daily for 21 days)
My passions lead me where I need to be to fulfill my purpose. Every day I gain knowledge and experience. As I live creatively and enthusiastically, I find joy and peace in being me. I am more than enough!
