Dear
,
Wow. Summer’s almost over. It’s hard to believe. Promoting “You Are More Than Enough: Every Woman’s Guide to Purpose, Passion, and Power, finishing the companion “Achievement Journal, virtual book tours, book signings and speaking engagements have kept me busy in airports and on the computer.
We’ll be finishing the final edits on the “Achievement Journal” this month so it can go to press and be back in time for those of you who have asked for it to give as Holiday gifts and to start the New Year. Sue Campbell, our Art Director, did a beautiful job on the Journal just like she did on the book. It is gorgeous and I can’t wait for you to see it.
I was interviewed on Alan Sloan’s radio show, “FYI – The Radio Show” on KDOX, Fox News Radio, 1280 AM. It was so great to be on the air with Alan again. It had been 20 years since we had seen each other and done TV shows together. He’s such a great interviewer that I thoroughly enjoyed the time we spent together.
I’ve been learning to blog. My friend, Greg Kompes, has been teaching me. That was quite a chore for him as I am technically challenged which many of you know. You are now able to go to judimoreo.com/blog and find out what I have to say about all kinds of issues. Hope you are interested.
Also, I attended the National Speakers Association Convention in San Diego and saw many, many friends that I hadn’t seen in years. It was really fun to do that. And I did my first podcast ever, thanks to my friend, Patricia Fripp, introducing me to the right person at the right time.
Thank you so much to Julie Neil and all the people at KTUD-TV, Robin Jay, and Judy Owen for the donations of clothing to my sister’s neighbor whose home burned to the ground during the fires in Utah this summer. Your donations were greatly appreciated. It is devastating to lose everything you have and it is wonderful to know there are people like you who really care. Thank you so very, very much.
Kindest regards,
Does Your Communication Style Say You Are a Professional? |
|
Does your communication style change with the method of communication? When communicating in an office setting do you tend to be more informal and chatty in an e-mail than you would be in a memo or letter? Do you use your correct grammar skills when writing but not when speaking?
How we deliver information is extremely important to understanding. How we speak or write leaves an overall impression of our professional capabilities. You may be the best person for the job but if you cannot communicate in a clear, professional manner, you may not be perceived as a professional.
Spelling, grammar and proper letter format will make as much of an impression on your boss or potential client as the content of your letter. Misspelled words, incorrect word usage and syntax will be remembered long after your proposal is tossed aside.
The rise in instant communication through e-mail has brought on a whole new set of problems. E-mail etiquette is still evolving.
However you deliver information, a grammar resource book, a dictionary, and a thesaurus are imperative to your personal business library.
Building a Professional Network May Be More Important Than
You Think |
|
Are you the quiet type? Do you go straight to your desk, turn on your computer and get to work? Does your boss love you because you get so much done? Do you put calls straight through, never gossip around the water cooler, and appear to be the perfect employee.
Have you thought about what will happen when the company merges with their biggest competitor and you get downsized? Where will you turn?
Being the perfect employee may keep you out of trouble, but it won’t give you the resources to fall back on when you need to find a new position.
Every chance you get, build your professional network. Make sure the clients know your name and what you do for them. If they have been to the office, make mental notes of who they are, their company name and what their relationship is with your company. Keep your ears open for small details. Remembering that they were on their way to their son’s wedding last time you saw them and inquiring about it will make a lasting impression on them. When the time comes, they will remember your professionalism, interest and efficiency.
In every business, it is the quality and quantity of contacts that will help make you successful. Even if you don’t need a new job, a strong network can be a valuable resource when the boss gives you a new project!
Mind Workout: Changing Sides |

What It Is
A method for gaining insight and perspective on the challenges you have by examining the opposition’s point of view.
How it Works
Have your team members imagine that everything about their current situation is the same, except that they are now the competitor. Team members must imagine that they have the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of their competitor.
The idea is to have your team members find ways to beat themselves. Ask them to consider the situation in these new circumstances. What would they do? What would be the strategy? What would be the first steps taken?
Once all relevant questions have been asked, determine what the counter strategies would be. Then start accomplishing them.

Judi’s presentation was engaging, entertaining, and motivating. She was a fabulous speaker. She approached what we do every day from a wonderful perspective – one that we need to hear as a reminder – listening, confidence, individuality and priorities.

Your presentation was exactly what we were looking for. Our employees thoroughly enjoyed your energizing presentation. The exercises you included were relevant to the topic and to the everyday challenges our employees face. They provided the employees the opportunity to put the knowledge you gave them to use in real life examples.
