Welcome to Judi Moreo’s monthly e-zine, developed specifically for people who want to be the best they can be and enjoy much success in their lives! Please feel free to forward this to associates, friends, and family!
Dear
,
It has been a fantastic month! YOU ARE MORE THAN ENOUGH has arrived and is in book stores across the USA…Barnes & Noble and Border’s. Our office has shipped out almost 500 books from pre-orders so if you haven’t gotten your book, you should be receiving it very soon. When you get the book and read it, if you like it and think others should read it, will you please do a review on Amazon.com? It will help me immensely and I will be ever so grateful.
I am very fortunate to have Stephens Press as my publisher. They are running some beautiful newspaper ads about the book and this is reconnecting me with people I haven’t seen in years. Models who worked with me at Universal have called to say hello, students from my Wendy Ward days when I ran the charm school for Montgomery Wards have made contact, and even before that…my wonderful boss, Jeannie Bennett…from when I worked for Buck Ram’s Personality Productions in 1963 (yes, I’m that old) attended a book signing at the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce Wine, Cheese and a Good Book event, and even my super ex-brother-in-law who is in the District Attorney’s office. It’s so good to have you all back in my life.
I had a wonderful Administrative Professionals day at Hoffman LaRoche in New Jersey. What a fantastic, positive group of people! And then back to Las Vegas to celebrate Administrative Professionals from our city at Diamond Star Events Administrative Appreciation Luncheon at Cili Restaurant at the Bali Hai Country Club where I spoke and everyone received a copy of YAMTE (the new book). If you missed this, you should make a reservation now for next year for all your Administrative staff. It was very, very nice.
The hospice in Krugersdorp, South Africa is still in need of funds for a new van. As reported a couple of months ago….. their van broke down. A very nice gentleman donated his time and fixed the van to keep it going, but I don’t know how much longer it will go. There are approximately 45 patients that have no transportation to get to hospice for their medications and treatments without this van. This trip to hospice is the only social contact many of them have as well as a place where they get served a good wholesome, healthy meal. If you have it in your heart to send $5.00 for donation to helping to get this much needed van, it would be greatly appreciated. You can send the donation to me at Turning Point International and I will add it to the other donations and wire transfer the money to hospice. They were most appreciative of our last donation.
Have a wonderful month and let us hear about your successes!
YAMTE,
Happy Mother's Day!
M-O-T-H-E-R
“M” is for the million things she gave me,
“O” means only that she’s growing old,
“T” is for the tears she shed to save me,
“H” is for her heart of purest gold;
“E” is for her eyes with love-light shining,
“R” means right, and right she’ll always be,
Put them all together, they spell “MOTHER”
A word that means the world to me.

Exceptional Customer Service |
|
Most people think of Customer Service only when they are the recipient of poor service from inattentive clerks, rude receptionists or improperly trained repair people. While many companies both large and small have hired trainers and mentores to build “exceptional”, “unbeatable” or “knock-your-socks-off” service programs for their associates, rarely is an organization able to maintain the level of service in a consistent manner over a long period of time.
The fault lies not in the programs, the training or even in managements' support and empowerment of its employees. Unless each individual takes ownership of and responsibility for the quality of service provided, there will always be a gap between the stated goal and the result.
Whether you are a front line employee, middle management or the CEO, give your best service every day, to both your customers and co-workers. When it begins with individual commitment, it is a positive and lasting change. Challenge yourself to be just 1% better every day.
Outstanding Administrative Professionals |
|
Last month I was privileged to meet many outstanding Administrative Professionals across the country. Administrative Assistants of today are a vital part of the success of the executives and companies they work for. The role of the Administrative Assistant, whether to the CEO of a major corporation or the manager of a small company requires flexibility, organization and creativity. Good communication skills, the ability to effectively handle relationships with other assistants, managers, suppliers and customers and the willingness to do whatever it takes are essential. The women and men I have met that fill this role are dedicated, committed and focused.
While often a thankless job, more and more companies are recognizing the value of a great assistant. By constantly developing your management skills, learning new strategies to deal with difficult people and situations, and networking with other successful assistants you become the Administrative Professional that is indispensable.
Your communication determines the quality of your life. All successful interactions and relationships depend on the flow of information. Whether the expression of that flow is non-verbal or oral, each message contains at least two elements, the surface element and the psychological element. Get your message across effectively, powerfully, persuasively and memorably. Learn how to understand others view points, then adapt to their unique style. Make a strong impression every time you speak.
Listening is the most important part of being a good communicator. Miscommunication frequently happens because we did not give 100% of our attention to what the other person was saying. We have a tendency to begin preparing our answer or rebuttal before the other person has finished what they have to say. Because our minds cannot hold two thoughts at once, we miss out on vital information.
Try listening – to your spouse, your children, your co-workers. It won’t be long before you are recognized for your improved communication skills.
Mind Workout: Metaphorical Thinking |
|
What It Is
The use of metaphors helps to explain and clarify the meaning of specific issues when information is difficult to understand or to explain in simple terms. Metaphors are a good way of developing creativity. They help people learn and think in new ways.
What You’ll Need
- Definition of a metaphor*
- Stop watch or timer
*Metaphor – a representation or a figurative expression for something. The key to metaphorical thinking is comparison. A metaphor suggests comparison between things or concepts, thus helping to explain them. “Life is a room full of open doors.”
How It Works
Before the meeting:
Identify the point you want to emphasize or explain. Think of what is important to your team members and how they will be able to relate. Brainstorm possible analogies and metaphors and select one or two that you will use.
At the meeting:
- Introduce the topic
- Make sure everyone understands the definition of a metaphor.
- Explain why you are asking the group to create metaphors. Explain how metaphors will be used.
- Give examples of your metaphors.
- Ask team members to create a metaphor for a problem you’re currently dealing with.
- Allow the group five minutes for thinking on the stated topic.
- Ask the group what conclusions can be drawn.
Example:
A company is experiencing limited sales, even though there is a high demand for similar products. A metaphor was created for the company as the first step to solve the problem. It was decided that the company was a full-service restaurant. The menu was the product line, which was large but had restrictions. The individual chefs – the division managers – realized that there was no consistency in the menu options. Consequently, this led to needing specialized waiters – salespeople. If a customer couldn’t buy hamburgers from a fish waiter or pasta from a steak waiter, it was quite obvious that a large, restricted product line was confusing to the customers. This was determined to be the main reason for the limited sales.
Metaphorical thinking can also be used in a family setting to help narrow the generation gap and encourage open communication and understanding.
