Do you demand perfection from yourself? From others? Do you have to have the perfect spouse, children, house, car, furniture, clothing, jewelry? Do you have to live in the perfect neighborhood? Do you really believe things can be perfect? Will there ever be time to do things perfectly? Probably not!
When you do your best, that should be good enough. When those around us do their best, that should be good enough. After all, that’s all any of us can do….our best!
Remember that in order to do something really well, we usually have to do it poorly at first. If we are going to learn anything, we have to start somewhere. After a while, if we are practicing the right habits, we will do it better. When I was first learning to paint, I couldn’t do what I do today, four years later. In fact, I wouldn’t have even attempted to draw or paint some of the things I do today. I wouldn’t have had the confidence.
There was a time in my life that if I couldn’t do it well, I wouldn’t do it at all. Then I realized, you don’t get good at anything by doing nothing.
Liberace wasn’t the best piano player in the world when he started. Venus and Serena Williams weren’t professional tennis players the first day. Michelle Wie is still working at improving her skills at golf every day.
So, why do you think you have to be perfect?
