intentionIf you’ve been listening to the news lately, you may have come to the conclusion that the outlook at the moment is bleak.  You may be caught up in the gloom and doom, hopeless mindset that is more contagious than a flu pandemic.

There are some things you can do to keep yourself healthy when everyone around you shares their negativity and to help prevent the spread of the dis-ease.

Inoculate –

To keep your mind and body healthy, it is important to first inoculate yourself by setting your intention.

Our intentions are our best defense against negativity and aimless wandering.  Without intention, our lives lack meaning and purpose.  Without purpose and direction, our natural immunity to depression and physical illness is compromised.   It is easy to become trapped in the downward spiral of hopelessness.

Every morning, before you get out of bed, you can reset your intention for the day.   Only you can determine what kind of day you will have.  Set your intention to have a good day.  When you find yourself bombarded with negativity, remind yourself that your intent is to be happy, relaxed and productive.  It’s easier to say no to negativity when you have a focused intention to fall back on.

Be clear about your intention.  Write it down.  Share it with someone who will support you and help hold you accountable for your actions throughout the day.  Take action!  Do something that demonstrates your commitment to fulfill your intention.  When you have taken a first step, give yourself credit for what you have done and determine what you will do next.

Living by intention is a safer, healthier way to achieve your goals than wandering aimlessly through life.

Cover your mouth –

It is easy to get caught up in negative conversations.   Watch every word that comes out of your mouth.  Your words spread dis-ease as surely as a cough or sneeze.  Make sure that the things you are saying – to yourself and others – are positive and in line with the intention you set for your day.

Wash your hands –

When you find yourself surrounded by people whose main purpose seems to be to infect the rest of the world with their negativity, excuse yourself, head for the nearest restroom and wash your hands, dust yourself off and remind yourself of your intentions for the day.

When you set your intention and maintain healthy habits, you will create an inner state of confidence and a positive outlook that will give you a sense of emotional security providing protection from the dis-ease of negativity.
